Nursing Informatics Questions and Answers
Questions From Readers

In this section, questions sent in by readers and visitors to the main Nursing Informatics web site are featured. I encourage you to ask questions that you would like to see printed in subsequent issues of this ezine. Go to the Contact Page to submit yours!

Q: I am currently a RN working in the western USA and am interested in changing my career to nursing informatics. Can you tell me what would be the best starting point? Thanks!

A. I suppose the easiest way would be to look for a local or online degree program in Nursing Informatics or to become certified by the ANCC (or both!) - you can find out more about the certification process at: nursecredentialing.org/cert/application.html . They also have a manual on NI credentialing .

Part of the requirements for this certification is continuing or formal education in NI. The courses I offer from the Learning Center on my site are approved by the California Board of Nursing for CE credits, so should be fine with the ANCC.

These courses are all done online, are self-paced, and you recieve one to one instruction. All of my current students are working full-time. If you have any more questions, let me know.

Q. I represent an executive search firm called Amstead Services. I saw your profile online through your website and was hoping to get assistance in a search I am conducting. I am currently looking for a Chief Nursing Informatics Officer for one of our clients here in California. I must say that finding professionals at your level is like finding a “diamond in the rough” here in the states. If you have any colleagues in the U.S. that would be open to discussing this opportunity, please feel free to pass my contact information. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

The award winning client is one of the largest Hospital Districts in California and situated in beautiful San Diego.

Compensation: Up to $189K (DOE) plus bonus and relocation expenses.

Regards,

A. Yes, most definitely. I am not sure if this position is still available (sent to me on June 1) but I will put out the word.
